3D Modeling Learning and Explorations

ROLE

3D Modeling / Visual Design / Animation

OVERVIEW

My Blender 3D journey began as a way to expand my creative toolkit and explore new forms of storytelling through three-dimensional design. With a background in digital design, I set out to challenge myself by learning Blender—an open-source 3D software known for its versatility in modeling, texturing, lighting, and animation.

PROCESS & EXPLORATIONS

Animal Crossing Characters: As a first step into character modeling, I recreated Animal Crossing characters in Blender. This project allowed me to practice modeling organic shapes, applying textures, painting UV maps, and experimenting with playful proportions to capture the charm of the game’s art style.

Olive & June Product Rendering: I translated Olive & June’s nail polish bottles into 3D, focusing on product visualization. This exercise sharpened my skills in creating realistic materials, working with glass and liquid shaders, and setting up lighting for clean, polished renders that could be used for marketing or e-commerce.

Powell’s Books Mug Product Rendering: In my continued journey to learn how to recreate objects, I 3D-modeled a mug with graphics. Here, I learned how to apply images and colors to different parts of the object, as well as different roughness values.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

My ongoing Blender journey is both a creative outlet and a professional growth path. Future areas I’m excited to explore include:

  • Animation and motion graphics integration with 3D assets
  • Character design and development
  • Environment and world-building design for storytelling projects
  • Advanced materials and physics simulations
  • Applications of 3D in branding, product design, and interactive experiences

REFLECTION

Learning Blender has pushed me outside my comfort zone and opened new opportunities to bring ideas to life in more immersive ways. These projects represent the beginning of a long-term journey, and I’m excited to continue growing my skills, blending 2D and 3D design, and finding new ways to connect creativity with technology.
